What survey data is, and isn’t, for
Survey results are used to improve your program. They are not used to evaluate individual staff members. This course treats that as a firm rule for three reasons:
- Families answer more honestly when they are describing the program, not rating a specific person.
- Results from a single classroom usually come from a handful of families, which makes them unreliable as a measure of one teacher.
- Staff support the survey, and encourage families to respond, when they know it won’t be used against them.
You will see this principle applied in Lesson 2, when you decide how to report results, and in Lesson 8, when you share them with staff.
