Reading level: Use short sentences and common words, aiming for about a 6th-grade reading level. Free online readability checkers can help.
Jargon: Avoid program terms such as “transitions,” “CCS,” or “EXCELS” unless you explain them.
Language: Translate the survey into the home languages your families use, and have a fluent speaker review each translation.
Device: Open the survey on a phone before sending it. Check that buttons are easy to tap and text is easy to read.
