Allowable volunteer activities are dependent on your program’s registered business type.

• For-profit programs cannot accept volunteer hours from their own employees.
• Non-profit programs cannot allow employees to “volunteer” for services identical or similar to their paid duties — such as weekend classroom cleanups, open houses, or off-hours field trips.

Best practice: Budget for overtime on occasion for staff to work special events and activities. And when appropriate, utilize non-employee volunteers for school community events instead.
