A routine beats a crisis
Learning objective: Create a regular, sustainable schedule for reviewing financial reports at your own program.
VIDEO PLACEHOLDER: A Director’s Monthly Review
To be built in Animaker. Replace this block with the video embed. Length: 2–3 minutes. Format: Character dialogue (Animaker character-dialogue template).
Script points:
- Harbor Oak’s director and bookkeeper sit down within two weeks of the end of March.
- They read the March Budget v. Actual together and sort the variances into “explainable” and “needs a question.”
- The director notices the AP aging total does not match the balance sheet and asks about it without accusing anyone; the bookkeeper traces it to a repair entered by journal entry.
- They spot the growing tuition discounts and agree to draft a written discount policy.
- They end by agreeing on next steps and the date of the April review.
Every red flag in Lesson 9 is easy to spot when someone looks at the reports every month. The same problems can grow for a year when nobody does. The goal of this lesson is a review routine you can keep, even in your busiest months.
